WHY BE A BLOOD DONOR?

• BECAUSE..
• This precious gift is used for transfusions to
  save lives. It cannot be manufactured and so it
  is priceless.
• 50,000 units are required each year to satisfy
  the increasing demand for blood and blood
  components. The blood Transfusion Service needs
  more voluntary blood donations
• The Blood transfusion Service now collects only
  half of the amount of blood needed with the
  result that many patients must have their
  operation postponed as emergency cases must take
  priority .Yet your operation or need for
  transfusion if delayed may caused serious health
  problems
• It is in giving that we receive .If you are a
  voluntary blood donor you are always
  prepared.You will not have to provide any further
  donation of blood if you need blood transfusion

WHO CAN GIVE BLOOD?

• Any person..
• Who is
• physical healthy with a healthy lifestyle
• between ages 17-65
• not less than 110lbs/50kg in weight and whose
  last meal is within 3 hours of intended time of
  donation
• HIGH RISK LIFESTYLE
• Homosexuals
• Prostitutes
• Bisexual men
• Intravenous( IV) drug users
• Indulging in anal or rectal sex
• Sexual partner of the above high risk groups

If you think your lifestyle may exclude you
donating blood - speak with the Doctor
confidentially before you donate.

HOW BLOOD SAVES LIVES

• Blood is transfused in various forms
• whole blood,red cells, platelets, plasma,
  cryoprecipates, hyper Immune Globulins.
• 1 unit of blood helps save the lives of 6 people.

WHAT GIVING BLOOD DOES FOR YOU

• Giving blood stimulates the body to produce more
  you feel better and there is nothing to fear.
• You get a free medical examination and blood test
  to determine that you are healthy.
• If any abnormalities are found you are informed
  and then referred to a doctor for specialised
  care.

  at the cost of perhaps half hour or so once or
  twice a year.

  on Tuesday June 13 900am - 400pm and be a
  Blood Donor.
