RCIA General Information
  • RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of
    Adults. RCIA is about
  • Conversion, spiritual journey and faith
    formation. It is a turning
  • toward God and away from the obstacles to God.
    It is the work
  • of the entire community because it deepens our
    awareness and
  • commitment to discipleship.
  • We meet on Sunday, at 900 a.m. to 1015 a.m.
    in the parish office.
  • Once we begin Dismissal we attend the 1030
    A.M.Mass also.
  • Here at Assumption parish we have a year-round
    RCIA process. This
  • means that a person may enter the RCIA process
    any time of the year.
  • To inquire about the RCIA phone the parish
    office.
  • Our RCIA has several teams that support the
    process. We have Inquirer Teams,
  • Catechumenate Teams, Hospitality Teams,
    Dismissal Teams, and Sponsors
  • all a part of the on-going process.
  • Toni Durden, Master Catechist is our
coordinator. She has a Masters Degree
  • in Catechetics from Santa Clara University and
    25 years experience as a
  • Catechist in the Oakland Diocese. She has been
    certified from the
  • Oakland Diocese as a RCIA Coordinator.

Sacraments
  • In the RCIA process we offer the Sacraments
of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist
known as the Sacraments of Initiation.
  • The process involves several steps along the
way. There is the Rite of Acceptance,
  • A period called the Catechumenate, the Rite
of Election, a period of Enlightenment, and a
    period of Mystagogy after Baptism.
  • Generally the entire process is wrapped
around the Liturgical Year. It takes as
  • long as it takes for a person to full
conversion of the Paschal Mystery Christ has
died, Christ has risen, and Christ will come
    again.
  • Easter Vigil is the usual time for the
    Sacraments of Initiation.

5
Adult Confirmation
  • The Sacrament of Confirmation for adults is
conferred by the Bishop at the Cathedral of
Christ the Light in Oakland.. We offer a
Confirmation Retreat before the Sacrament is
    conferred.
  • The requirements are that you be a
registered member of Assumption parish and you
must present a copy of your Baptism and First
    Eucharist.

6
Sponsors/Godparents
  • If you would like to be a sponsor you may
call the parish office. Sponsors are not
Godparents in that they walk the journey of
conversion with a candidate for the time of the
process up to receiving the Sacraments.
  • Godparents remain with the candidate for
    their entire life.
