Daviss work is oriented by recent developments
in theories of learning and his main concerns are
with the pragmatics of teaching. His major
conceptual influence is complexity science, a
realm of inquiry concerned with evolving,
adaptive phenomena.

One might say that complex systems are learning
systems or learners. Davis uses complexity
science to argue that the classroom should be
understood as an intelligent agent that is
capable of generating insights not represented in
or by any of the individual class membersand, as
such, the collective is the proper focus of the
teachers attentions.
