• Leverages growing XML knowledge base, tools
• Less intimidating than full-blown OAI-PMH
• Facilitates remote help with implementation
• Gets more people involved in OAI
• Object Identity Attributes
• In increasingly peer-to-peer environment must do
  better job with de-dupping, provenance,
• Need to implement theoretical models, e.g., FRBR

Metadata

• Expressing IP rights
• Recognizing Different Meanings of Open
• Expanding scope of Open Archives
• Encouraging reuse of information objects
• DC alone is not enough will never be enough
• Not rich enough not structured enough

• Find Balance Between Open Closed
• Highest quality metadata in closed systems
• Institutional bias against purely open solutions
• Continue to encourage vendor involvement
• Prove End-User Benefit
• More than 200 OAI projects have established that
  OAI-PMH can be implemented
• They havent proven (generally) that any good
  (for the end user) comes of using OAI-PMH
