Title: Lesson 4: Christianity Has a Better High Priest: Jesus Christ 3:110:18Part 1
1Lesson 4 Christianity Has a Better High Priest
Jesus Christ (31-1018)--Part 1
- Christ has a priesthood (house). (31-6)
- WARNING DISBELIEF AND DISOBEDIENCE CAN CAUSE
ONE TO MISS THE REST/REWARD. (37-411) - Christ serves as high priest now. (412-16)
- Christ is insightful. (412-13)
- Christ is sympathetic. (414-16)
2Christ Has a Priesthood (House) (31-6)
- (Heb 32 NKJV) who was faithful to Him who
appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all
His house. - (Heb 35 NKJV) And Moses indeed was faithful in
all His house as a servant, for a testimony of
those things which would be spoken afterward, - In what sense was Moses in a house? (32, 5)
- What was the house (household of God) that Moses
was in?
3Christ Has a Priesthood (House) (31-6)--Contd
- (Heb 35 NKJV) And Moses indeed was faithful in
all His house as a servant, for a testimony of
those things which would be spoken afterward, - (Heb 36 NKJV) but Christ as a Son over His own
house, whose house we are if we hold fast the
confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to
the end. - In what sense is Christ over a house?
- What is the house (household) that Christ is
over? - What is the differences between being a servant
not slave (35) and a son (36)? - Why was it important for the readers of Hebrews
to understand Christs superiority over Moses?
4Christ Has a Priesthood (House) (31-6)--Contd
- (Heb 31 NKJV) Therefore, holy brethren,
partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the
Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ
Jesus - (Heb 36 NKJV) but Christ as a Son over His own
house, whose house we are if we hold fast the
confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to
the end. - The word confidence in 36 is often translated
bold, boldly, openly, freely, or
plainly. - The word rejoicing in 36 is often translated
boasting, glory, or glorying. - When combined with the word confession
(NKJV)/profession(KJV) in 31, what does that
imply for those in His calling?
5WARNING DISBELIEF AND DISOBEDIENCE CAN CAUSE ONE
TO MISS THE REST/REWARD. (37-411)
- (Heb 38 NKJV) Do not harden your hearts as in
the rebellion, In the day of trial in the
wilderness, - (Heb 310 NKJV) Therefore I was angry with that
generation, And said, 'They always go astray in
their heart,. - (Heb 319 NKJV) could not enter in because of
unbelief. - (Heb 42 NKJV) For indeed the gospel was
preached to us as well as to them but the word
which they heard did not profit them, not being
mixed with faith in those who heard it. - What had been the problem with those in the
rebellion? (38, 10, 19 42)
6WARNING DISBELIEF AND DISOBEDIENCE CAN CAUSE ONE
TO MISS THE REST/REWARD. (37-411) --Contd
- (Heb 311 NKJV) So I swore in My wrath, 'They
shall not enter My rest.'" - (Heb 316 NKJV) For who, having heard,
rebelled? - (Heb 317 NKJV) Now with whom was He angry
forty years? Was it not with those who sinned,
whose corpses fell in the wilderness? - (Heb 318 NKJV) And to whom did He swear that
they would not enter His rest, but to those who
did not obey? - How did that problem show itself? (316, 18)
- What happened as a result? (311, 17-18)
7WARNING DISBELIEF AND DISOBEDIENCE CAN CAUSE ONE
TO MISS THE REST/REWARD. (37-411) --Contd
- (Heb 38 NKJV) Do not harden your hearts as in
the rebellion, In the day of trial in the
wilderness, - (Heb 312 NKJV) Beware, brethren, lest there be
in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in
departing from the living God - (Heb 49 NKJV) There remains therefore a rest
for the people of God. - (Heb 41 NKJV) Therefore, since a promise
remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest
any of you seem to have come short of it. - What is the danger for us today? (38, 12 49, 1)
8WARNING DISBELIEF AND DISOBEDIENCE CAN CAUSE ONE
TO MISS THE REST/REWARD. (37-411) --Contd
- (Heb 313 NKJV) but exhort one another daily,
while it is called "Today," lest any of you be
hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. - (Heb 314 NKJV) For we have become partakers of
Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence
steadfast to the end, - (Heb 315 NKJV) while it is said "Today, if
you will hear His voice, Do not harden your
hearts as in the rebellion." - How can we avoid the fate of missing our rest/
reward? (314, 15) - What will be working against us? (313b)
- What should be working for us? (313a)
9Christ Serves As High Priest Now(412-16)
- Christ is insightful (412-13)
- (Heb 412 NKJV) For the word of God is living
and power-ful, and sharper than any two-edged
sword, piercing even to the division of soul and
spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the
heart. - (Heb 413 NKJV) And there is no creature hidden
from His sight, but all things are naked and open
to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. - (Heb 414 NKJV) Seeing then that we have a
great High Priest who has passed through the
heavens, Jesus the Son of God. - Who is it that discerns the thoughts of our
hearts and will judge us? (John 522, Rom. 216,
II Cor. 510, II Tim. 41, Rev. 223, Rom. 834,
Heb. 725)
10Christ Serves As High Priest Now(412-16)--Contd
- Christ is insightful (412-13)--Contd
- Christ is the one to whom we must give account.
- (John 522 NKJV) "For the Father judges no one,
but has committed all judgment to the Son, - (Rom 216 NKJV) in the day when God will judge
the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to
my gospel. - (2 Cor 510 NKJV) For we must all appear before
the judgment seat of Christ .... - (2 Tim 41 NKJV) I charge you therefore before
God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the
living and the dead at His appearing and His
kingdom - Christ is the discerner of our hearts.
- (Rev 223 NKJV) and all churches shall know
that I am He who searches the minds and hearts.
And I will give to each one of you according to
your works.
11Christ Serves As High Priest Now(412-16)--Contd
- Christ is sympathetic (414-16)
- (Heb 414 NKJV) Seeing then that we have a
great High Priest who has passed through the
heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast
our confession. - (Heb 415 NKJV) For we do not have a High
Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses,
but was in all points tempted as we are, yet
without sin. - (Heb 416 NKJV) Let us therefore come boldly to
the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and
find grace to help in time of need. - How important is it to your confidence that God
understands what we feel to know that Christ took
fleshly form?
