Title: MapperAssembly Update

1
Mapper/Assembly Update
  • Robert Bradford
  • University of Rochester
  • November 28, 2007

2
Mapper Status
  • Mechanical
  • Youve seen mechanical assembly largely done.
  • Al. B. recently completed design of limit switch
    and camera mounting HW.
  • Pieces in fabrication (Department Shop)
  • Some controls being assembled by K. Knickerbocker
    (Als tech).
  • Last mechanical piece is Pb cones for radioactive
    source
  • Currently working to finalize spec.

3
Mapper Status
  • DAQ/Motion control hardware
  • Delivered DAQ computer 2 weeks ago
  • Ordered required video cards
  • Looking for VME controller
  • Want to take data with current card
  • Paul has found damaged (but fixable) card.
  • Al will configure this week.
  • PMTs
  • Have received 1 new FEB from Paul.
  • Paul starting to measure PMT gains

4
Mapper Status
  • DAQ/Motion control software
  • Offline group met with Al and has begun to
    negotiate format of output data.
  • Has started to make requested changes
  • I wrote mapper cable/channel maps (Docdb 2072)
  • Mapper software has to know which scintillator
read out by which electronics channel
  • Accounts for fiber routing in planes (OD
assemblies), mapping of clear fiber cables, all
cable connections and the ODU weave within PMT
    box.
  • Establishes some conventions.
  • Will write similar map for TP soon

5
Mapper Cones
  • Geometric Constraints
  • Available space from what Bob designed.
  • Kathy G. has asked for 3 of Pb shielding in
    cone.
  • From Howard
  • Make spot size size of EM shower
  • Too large spot will smear effects of localized
    non-uniformities

6
Mapper Cones - Continued
  • Previous manual tests indicate larger cone angle
    is better.
  • Ran test comparing narrower against wide cone.
  • Larger cone was better able to define shape of
    transverse scan faster, less uncertainty
  • However, did not analyze older data on cone size
    for effects of localized nonuniformities.

7
Mapper Cones - Continued
  • Have identified many non-uniformities in FMP
    planes.
  • Accounts for much of what we see in
    Leos/Jaewons analysis
  • Want to localize and scan problematic point with
2 different cones to determine if larger cone
    less sensitive (and extent)

8
Other Mapper Issues
  • Offline code appears to be making good progress
  • Need to further manual testing
  • Need more data for development of offline code.
    Want to verify earlier results.
  • Prioritizing needs of new DAQ
  • Some HW from old DAQ needed for transition.
  • Temporarily holding up this effort
  • Hope to have something working by collaboration
    meeting.

9
Module Assembly TP outfitting
  • Biggest task for TP preparation.
  • Iterating with Bob on updated drawings of hall
    layout.
  • Need to negotiate final layout with J. Kilmer.
  • Using techs to handle most outfitting tasks
  • Clean-up, organization, assembly of benches,
    procure material from FNAL
  • Will use PPD techs to build scintlilator tables.

10
Assembly continued.
  • Starting to working on
  • Phones
  • Getting printers
  • Removal of magnetic coils
  • Having Dan test candidate adhesives for Pb.
  • Identified 3 suitable candidates a few months
    ago
  • Having Dan test
  • Strength
  • Handling (smell, etc).

11
Installation
  • Tasks resulting from TP workshop
  • Cable routing workshop with Paul and Steve D.
    Dec. 11
  • Configuration tracking for assembly
  • Ordering material to barcode cables, planes, etc.
  • Have everything but label media.
  • Working on database interface
  • Prefer to use CRL form designed by D. Boehnlein
  • Heidi prefers Excel spreadsheet.
