25SUSTAINABLE PROCUREMENT
- Public procurement must ensure that money is
spent wisely to achieve true vfm improving our
efficiency and our service now, while at the same
time protecting our future generations - When we decide what to buy we need to think
about the broader issues protecting scarce
resources, consuming less, recycling more and
choosing options that meet all our wider
objectives - need to be encouraging our suppliers to share
our values for people and the environment - (Mrs Sue Essex AM Buy Now Dont Pay Later
2004 )
26SUSTAINABLE PROCUREMENT
- this is worth doing, there are clear benefits,
it can be done, it is not difficult, it will not
cost more in the medium term and will show real
dividends in the long term - (Sir Neville Simms Procuring the Future 2006)
27SUSTAINABLE PROCUREMENT
- future generations will neither excuse us nor
forgive us for ignoring the signals that we can
see today. They will not accept that it was too
difficult or too costly to keep our economic
aspirations in balance with our impact on the
environment and the effects of our decisions
would inevitably have on society. They will
wonder why we delayed - (Sir Neville Simms Procuring the Future 2006)
