Description The user is presented with an
ordinary looking intercom system. The GSM
Doorbell II is a intercom system which uses the
GSM mobile phone technology enabling an owner to
communicate with a visitor over any distance as
long as the owner has mobile phone coverage.
- Benefits
- There are a number of benefits the GMS Doorbell
II has over the traditional intercom system. Some
of these include - Increased communication range Traditional
intercom systems typically have a limited range
of a few hundred meters. Where as the GSM
Doorbell can be used anywhere with mobile
coverage. - Versatility The GSM Doorbell makes use of a
persons mobile phone so there is no need for a
dedicated transceiver. - Continual office or home presence A person
coming to your door is never missed and they have
no way of knowing that you are not home. This
enhances customer service within a business.
Implementation A Sony Ericsson GM29 GSM modem
was used and controller using an Atmel AT90s8515
microcontroller using AT commands. A user
interface is provided via a keypad and LCD
display. The LCD display provides the user with
call details and instructions and the keypad
provides the user with the ability to initiate
calls. Multiple numbers can be stored in the
doorbell and these can be added or changed via
SMS.
