In The Beginning

• 1983 A waiting list problem in Dade county lead
  Dr. Keith Scott and Dr. Richard Urbano to create
  a program to track children seen at the Mailman
  center or FDLRS South to avoid duplication of
  services. This is a start of a registry system in
  Florida

Florida, the Early Years

• 1986
• Handicap Prevention Act mandates the
  establishment of local registries and information
  sharing systems
• A small and medium county registry project is
  initiated with 8 pilot site counties (PKHISS)
• Several FDLRS centers create their own in-house
  tracking systems

The Dark Ages

• There is no unity
• There is no consistency across the state
• There are state-sponsored registries Small,
  Medium and Large county projects
• To quote a child find specialist
  It was a digital Tower of Babel

The Renaissance

• 1990
• A decision is made to have two systems maintained
  at the University of Miami
• At 5 FDLRS centers Unix systems are installed to
  run an Informix version of the registry program
• At the remaining 13 FDLRS centers, Mitsubishi 386
  top of the line computers are distributed with
  a Clipper registry program, this program had
  color options

Anne Hymowitz joins the CHRIS team.

Everybody goes INFORMIX

• 1991
• Desktop version of the Informix CHRIS program is
  created
• The 18 FDLRS centers are now all using this
  Informix-based program

• 1992-1994
• The CHRIS Technical Assistance Work Group - TAWG
  is founded
• Many changes are implemented based on user input
• Several versions of CHRIS are developed
• Ultimately, a major design change

• FileMaker Pro 3
• Cross Platform
• All CHRIS programs in one place
• Upgrade CHRIS 97.2 had many changes including
  Super Track

• FileMaker 4.0
• Brought exciting things like the All-sites
  report and archive

• Some new fields
• Reports - yes the introduction of Reporter!!!

Changes in 1999

• CHRIS Project moves from the Mailman Center to
  the Psychology Department on the Coral Gables
  Campus
• Dr. Richard Urbano moves to Nashville to work on
  a children's registry
• Dr. Shihfen Tu becomes the new CHRIS Director

and then Y2K came along

• We all survived
• We unveil our New CHRIS web page
• Quarterly Backup Program is initiated
• CHRIS Points program is initiated
• Steps are taken to link CHRIS data to Florida
  Public School records
• Rachael Spanjer writes a cover Story titled
  It is time to Generate an Accurate Timeline
  Reportwe start working in that direction

CHRIS Survey

• CHRIS Survey is distributed
• Child Find Meeting held to review results from
  the CHRIS Survey and do a lot of brain storming
• Results provide the foundation for what we now
  know as CHRIS Plus

Training Changes

• A New User training script is created with input
  from veteran users and new users, a training
  packet to enable advanced users to train is
  created

2001 A CHRIS Odyssey

• Aimee Astte joins the CHRIS Team
• On-line Reporter training is available
• All Sites report is set to fix numbers for
  previous years, sites are overjoyed with this
  change
• Development of the CHRIS Plus is underway!

Another Changing of the Guard

• Dr. Shihfen Tu moves to Maine to work on a
  registry for children
• Dr. Christine Delgado is named the new Project
  Director

We Are Not There Yet

• 2002
• Development of State Improvement Plan, Goal 5
• Mini 2002 Questionnaire distributed
• Statewide aggregated database is added to our
  goal list
• All of the above creating more changes to CHRIS
  Plus

Now We Have Arrived!

• CHRIS data is successfully integrated with
  statewide birth certificate records and public
  school records, the possibilities for research
  are endless
• Gladys Sanchez joins the CHRIS Team
• More requests are made for CHRIS Plus
• We can rebuild it Stronger, Faster, With
  Timelines
