  • Select 3 brands - same flavor, same type
  • A. One must be well known
  • B. One must be generic or a store brand
  • Examples Stars, Shaws, Roche Brothers, Trader
    Joes, or 365 (which is from Whole Foods)
  • C. One must be organic or natural but NOT
    diet,
  • low fat, low salt, reduced fat, or anything like
    that.

3. Make a chart with 10 different factors
comparing the 3 brands. Be sure to include the
required factors listed in the packet.

  • 4. Do a before and after test, putting the
    results into a pie chart.
  • A. Survey at least ten people, asking them
    which of the three brands they think they would
    like the best. Be sure to record the results on
    a piece of paper.
  • Then do a blind taste test, recording the
    results.
  • 1. When the tasters are out of the room, take a
    piece of paper and divide it into 3 sections A,
    B, C
  • 2. Put a sample of each brand in each
    section. Only you know which one is which!!!!
  • 3. Bring the tasters back in the room
    and let them taste each one. Do not let them
    talk or compare. Then ask which one they prefer
    between A, B, and C. Tell them which brand only
    after you record the results.

Make sure to print your charts! Use the same
colors for each brand in both charts!

  • Write a recommendation of which brand would be
    the best to buy. Include reasons why based on
    taste, cost, and
  • nutrition. Give examples!!
  • Explain explain explain!
  • Write a conclusion about what you learned doing
    this project and any ideas to improve it.

The project should be 4 pages!
  • Page 1 - Title of product with the 3 brands.
  • Be sure to include pictures of each brand.
  • Page 2 - Chart of 10 factors comparing the 3
    brands.
  • Page 3 - The before and after tests in pie chart
    form.
  • Page 4 - Your recommendation and your conclusion.
    Two separate paragraphs, each one labeled. The
    first should be 5-10 sentences. The second can be
    3-7 sentences.

ALL BRANDS MUST BE APPROVED IN ADVANCE BY THE
TEACHER!
  • We might be able to do some taste tests in class
    if students can bring in enough for everyone to
    have.
  • Ask me in advance. If there are food allergies,
    be sure to let me know now!!!!
