Physical Description
  • Male giraffes can be up to 18 feet. The female
    giraffe can 13-15 feet.
  • The male giraffe can be 1,765lbs-4,255 pounds.
    Female giraffes weigh up to 2,600 pounds.
  • The giraffe has the longest neck in the world.

Predators
  • The giraffes predators are humans, lions and
    hyenas.
  • The giraffe uses its long, long legs to protect
    itself by sleeping standing up. They use their
    legs and sharp hooves to kill the lions and
    hyenas.
  • The giraffes are hunted for clothes, and
    furniture coverings, good luck bracelets and even
    shield coverings.

Habitat
  • Its very dry in the winter. (The dry season.)
    Theres a period of rain in the summer.
  • The giraffe lives in Africa. Regions south of the
    Sahara Desert. Niger is the country with the most
    giraffes.
  • They hang around the savannah, bush, scrub and
    open acacia woodlands. They live in semi-arid
    regions to regions to dense vegetation.

Food and Diet
  • Giraffes eat plants, acacia trees, broadleaf
    plants and Combretum trees also evergreen brush.
  • They are herbivores.

Babies
  • The giraffe usually has one calf at a time. It
    takes one year and three months for a baby to be
    born.
  • The baby giraffe is called a calf. At the moment
    of its birth it is six feet tall. It weighs 120
    to 150 pounds.
  • Giraffe babies stay with their mothers for about
    two years. It becomes an adult when it is three
    or four years old. Then it is on its own.

  • It is the tallest animal on earth.
  • It isnt a fighter but it will protect itself
    from enemies.
  • It sleeps standing up. It keeps one eye open
    alternately. It needs to be able to run if any
    enemy is near.
  • They can moo, hiss, roar and whistle.
  • A giraffes never takes a bath. Birds called Ox
    peckers sit on the giraffe and peck at the bugs
    on the giraffe to keep them clean.
