  president for two terms in the National
  Association of Colored Women.

• Bethune founded the National Council of Negro
  Women, and served as president until 1949.
• Founded the Daytona Normal and Industrial
  Institute for Negro Girls (now Bethune-Cookman
  College) in 1904, and served as president from
  1904-1942.
• Bethune founded McLeod Hospital to serve the
  community and to provide training for black
  physicians and nurses.

Summary

• Mary McLeod Bethune overcame tough obstacles to
  get what she had. She did everything that an
  African American was not suppose to do. Like get
  an education and teach other, but she did this
  against all odds.
