I. Location and organization

• There were two groups
• Natives stayed in one place
• The other groups were hunters
• They lived in two large towns along the rio grand
  River
• The villages were run by chiefs
• Jumanos lived in most of the area in Texas west
  of the Pecos river

II Dress

• Jumanos tattooed and painted their bodies
• The women wore there hair long
• the men cut there hair to the middle of there
  scalp
• The men wore buffalo hides
• The women wore deer skin shirts/ponchos
• They used paint to look like a cap or bun

III. Homes

• Flat roofed houses made of dry mud
• They had very strong houses
• They were very easy houses to repair
• The homes were made of sticks and hide
• There houses were easy to move around

IV. How they lived

• In the Jumanos farming villages
• They grew corn, beans, squash and cotton
• Women gathers mesquite pods and beans
• They often had to deal with droughts
• Men hunted deer and buffalo, fowl
• They had simple brown pottery

V. Beliefs

• They had ceremonies
• Music was important
• They sing and danced in ceremonies

VI. Summary

• They contact with Europeans
• Some of the Jumano lived near the rivers and
  farmed while other groups were nomadic
  hunter-gatherers
• The Jumanos adopted very well to the driest
  regions of Texas
