Latar Belakang (1)

• IPv4 pada akhirnya akan digantikan ipv6
• pTLA (6bone) akan phase-out pada 2005, sTLA harus
  operasional pada saat itu
• IPv4 diprediksi akan benar-benar habis 2008/-3

• Dalam rangka mewujudkan riset pada bidang
  internetwork di ITB
• Salah satu aktivitas yg dilakukan dalam
  berpartisipasi di lingkungan AI3
• Berinisiatif untuk menjadi salah satu pionir yg
  menyelenggarakan dan mengoperasikan jaringan
  internet berbasis IPv6

Apa yng Dibutuhkan ?

• Alokasi ipv6 yng telah Internet-reachable
• Infrastruktur yng mendukung IPv6
• Aplikasi jaringan (client-server) yg telah
  IPv6-enable
• Komunitas yg memiliki will yng tinggi untuk
  men-deploy jaringan IPv6

Kondisi ITB

• 2 buah prefix diperoleh dari WIDE
• 20012008003000/64 (POP)
• 2001200830/44 (ORG)
• Arsitektur layer 3 (network) belum mendukung
• Aplikasi client-server sudah ada tapi belum
  banyak yng menggunakan
• Belum banyak yg memiliki interest terhadap IPv6

Kendala Network Deployment

• Jaringan di border-area tidak masalah karena
  menggunakan pc-based-router
• Jaringan di dalam intranet ITB menggunakan cisco
  product
• Menjadi tulang punggung utama sehingga menjadi
  pusat distribusi seluruh trafik
• Saat ini hanya mendukung IPv4 dengan OSPFv2
  sebagai protokol routing tunggal

Solusi Alternatif

• Tiap titik deployment cisco digantikan dengan
  pc-based-router yng IPv6-ready
• Koneksi dengan transit dan stub network
• layer 2 (vlan trunking)
• tunnel
• Topologi akan diadaptasi dari yg ada
• Mempertahankan konsistensi hirarki network
• Mempermudah bila akan migrasi kepada fully
  support IPv6 cisco

Status Implementasi IPv6

• Ke-4 router telah UP dan operasional, dan
  menggunakan protokol routing OSPFv3
• Routing native-IPv6 telah berjalan sejak Februari
  2003 melalui gerbang.itb.ac.id
• Beberapa server di 2 NOC telah mulai menjajaki
  penggunaan ipv6
• Beberapa stub network di ITB telah tersambung,
  dan terus bertambah

• Deployment ke seluruh subnet di ITB
• Forward dan reverse dns IPv6 untuk domain
  itb.ac.id
• Migrasi prefix dari WIDE ke prefix baru AI3 TLA
  2001d30
• Aktivitas yg melibatkan aplikasi IPv6-only
