2 basic questions of Developmental Psychology

• Does development reflect nature or nurture? Is
  development natural or is it learned?
• Is development continuous or discontinuous? Is
  it in steady or does it go in spurts or stages?

Stages of development

• Prenatal conception to birth. Includes three
  stages germinal, embryonic, fetal.
• Infancy birth to 18/24 months.
• Childhood
• Early 1-4 (end of infancy to 5/6)
• Middle 4-8
• Late 8-12(6 11 if middle and late combined)

• Adolescence (from 10/12 to 18/22)
• Early 13-15
• Middle 15-17

• Early 20-35 (late teens or early 20s and
  lasting through the thirties).

  age and extending to the sixties).
