Power Pool Overview

• Pool set up in 1989, under the auspices of UMA
  (Union du Maghreb Arabe Arab Maghreb Union)
• Main objective to study and propose solutions to
  power utilities companies that are members, share
  best practises
• Key activities undertaken so far
• Participation into ELTAM study (interconnection
  Egypt-Lybia-Tunisia-Algeria-Morocco) and signing
  of project implementation convention between the
  5 countries
• Creation of the Maghreb Interconnection
  Commission, which studies, defines management
  conditions and coordinates cross-border power
  exchanges between Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco,
  taking into account the Maghreb-Europe
  interconnection via Spain
• Participation, in year 2000, into the MEDRING
  study joint management of the interconnected
  power loop amongst Mediterranean countries
• Participation in, and distribution of, annual
  statistics on power activity in Maghreb
• Next key activities planned
• Implementation of ELTAM interconnection project
• Development of a Maghreb Power Market
• Preparation for reliable synchronous management
  of interconnected power systems of ELTAM countries
