Title: Renting or Sharing a House

1
Renting or Sharing a House
  • Is it the best , worst or the right thing to do?

2
Between 15 and 20
  • Between 15 and 20 is the age most people start
thinking about moving out of their parents houses
and getting a place of their own.
  • This is also the age that you are very vulnerable
and this is the time you can be ripped off or
tricked into doing something without thought.

3
Positives
  • A shared house is a house that holds a group of
friends, colleagues etc. who share the house and
the expenses. This is a good thing because you
can afford a better lifestyle and it means there
is less cost to hit you in the wallet.
  • Renting a house is good too because most of the
time it costs less than a mortgage.
  • Moving out of your parents also means there is
    more freedom for you.

4
Negatives
  • The down points of sharing or renting house is
that You have to make sure that you have the
money to pay for food, the rent, bills etc. These
things come around once a month and they arent
    cheap.
  • Freedom is good but now you are no longer able to
have mum make dinner or wash your clothes.

If you are in a shared house you have to make
sure that your mates can put up their share of
the costs.
5
Rent and Bond
  • These are two of your greatest enemies.
  • Rent is the money you pay the owner or
real-estate to be allowed to stay at the
property. It is usually paid weekly.
  • The Bond is a down payment of usually 4 weeks
rent up front to pay for any damage caused while
you are at the property. If no damage is done you
    get your bond back.

6
Other Expenses
  • You need to be aware that there are a lot of
other expenses involved in having your own place.
  • Apart from bond and rent you need to consider the
costs of furnishing your home. You may be able to
buy second hand stuff or scrounge a lounge from
    your folks.
  • Weekly food expenses may cost more than you
think. You must remember that you dont have a
money tree in the back yard so it is important to
    budget.

7
More Expenses
  • After you have fed yourself, you need to put
money aside for other things such as electricity,
phone and water expenses. These bills arrive
either monthly or quarterly, and if you havent
put a little aside each week you may find
yourself in trouble. A good idea is to open a
separate bank account and deposit an amount
    weekly.

8
Even More Expenses
  • How will you get to work? Do you need to pay for
petrol? Or does the bus run near your place? All
these things need to be considered before you
take the big plunge and leave home.

9
The Last Bit
  • If you really want your own place, look at all
the points mentioned above. If you think you will
    make it, go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • GOOD LUCK
