Background/Goal
  • Started in 2000 by Squash BC (initially called
    20/20 Vision Program)
  • Supporting/promoting junior squash seen as
    critical to games future survival
  • External sources of funding increasingly
    unreliable (in 2009, BC government announced
    substantial cuts in sports funding)
  • Secure source of long-term funding needed
  • Goal raise 200,000 by 2020

    Foundation

  • Protected from claims by Squash BC creditors
  • Avoids possible prejudice of Squash BCs
    external sources of funding
  • Part of 700 million fund managed by a
    combination of specialized investment management
    firms.
  • Access to online donation capability.
  • Low costs for investment management and
    administration only 0.7 of 2020 Fund balance
    (less than 900 per annum currently)
  • Donations are tax deductible. Tax receipts issued
    for donations of 25 or more

Funds Mandate(To be confirmed by Squash BC)
  • Distributions from the 2020 Fund will be focussed
    primarily on the following
  • Grassroots programs that expand the base of
    junior players
  • Programs that encourage junior players to remain
    active in squash
  • Upgrading junior coaching skills and
  • Encouraging junior role models.

  • Fund balance at 30.06.09 - 152,000
  • Growing support from squash community
  • New donations in 2009 - 21,450(first 6 months
    only)
  • of donors - 67
  • Average new donation - 320
  • Increasing number of tournaments/events raising
    money for the 2020 Fund annually

Strong Progress in 2009
  • After experiencing investment headwinds in 2008,
    the Fund finally benefited from the turn around
    in the investment markets in the second quarter
    of 2009.
  • The combination of positive investment
    performance and continuing strong level of
    donations has significantly boosted the Fund
    balance in the first half of 2009.

Future Plans/Expectations
  • Our goal is to
  • Reach 200,000 in 2010
  • Begin distributing funds to Squash BC for
    promotion of junior squash in 2010.
  • Fund will continue to grow after initial target
    reached through ongoing donations and investment
    earnings.
  • 2020 Fund expected to have a major impact on
    funding available for junior squash development.
