BARNAS TRONDHEIMSPORTAL presentation
  • The project is to develop Barnas Trondheimsportal
    (henceforth called BT), a web portal for the
    kindergarten in Trondheim and a classroom for
    learning in digital media attached to the
    subjects music, drama, art and the Norwegian
    language.
  • The Web portal shall be framed as an animated map
    of Trondheim and accommodated use in the
    kindergarten.
  • BT shall stengthen the kindergarten calibre as
    intermediary of culture, and the kindergartens
    use of digital media. BT shall be made so that it
    will become easily for the kindergartens
    personnel to adopt IKT as a creative tool along
    with kids.
  • It shall give the culture institutions an
    alternative to reach out to the kindergarten,
    children and parents, and visitors to Trondheim
    with children. The project can be expanded
    nationally and in to the school.

BARNAS TRONDHEIMSPORTAL in three stages
  • Stage 1 Experts in team
  • Start to develop a prototype of the portal and a
    technical base
  • At stage 1 it will be attempted to make sites for
    three locations. These places will be Trondheim
    Kunstmuseum (art gallery), Nidarosdomen
    (cathedral) and Trondheim Folkebibliotek
    (library).

Stage 2 Making the portal operative
  • Programming the portal so its ready to use. After
    the technical base is ready we can start to make
    the pedagogic workshops attached to the portal.

Stage 3 - Include entire Trondheim
  • At stage 3 Barnas Trondheimsportal will become
    augmented so that it includes all culture
    institutions and all kindergartens in Trondheim.

Stage 4 Research
  • At stage 4 staff at DMMH will research on how
    Barnas Trondheimsportal affects the kids in the
    kindergartens relations to the culture
    institutions in Trondheim, and how the portal is
    becoming an arena for learning in digital media.

How does BT work?
  • When a group of kids in the kindergarten, along
    with an member of the staff open the portal they
    will see a animated map of Trondheim were they
    can click on different art- and culture
    institutions and get to there sites.
  • To all the locations in the portal it attached a
    assignment and the kindergarten have to visit the
    institution to find the answer.
  • In BT the kids also finds their own kindergarten,
    so that they can bee able to how they have to
    travel to get to the culture institution they
    want to visit.

Example - Trondheim Art gallery
  • When a group in the kindergarten is clicking at
    Trondheim Kunstmuseum they will see some pictures
    and information about the gallery's exhibitions.
  • It will be virtual location were the kindergarten
    herself can lay out pictures, so that these
    becomes displayable both for other the
    kindergarten and for the parents.
  • With BT the kindergarten can easily make
    pedagogic documentation of their activities and
    the parents can see what their children are make
    in the kindergarten.

  • BT will able the kindergartens to draw pictures,
    scan pictures, draw hypertext, work on digital
    history telling, bringing forward digital
    pictures and movies, make sound and music, etc.
  • By BT kindergartens will get an alternative to
    eksperiment and to develop their experiences with
    digital tools.
  • The kids are getting an alternative to bring
    along their experience with media in to the
    kindergarten, and a way to acquire new competence.

Aim for the project
  • To strengthen the kindergarten as culture arena.
  • Take digital media seriously.
  • Afford children an alternative so that they can
    experience that digital tools can be fun to use.
  • Support kids curiosity, creativity and afford
    challenge starting from their interests,
    knowledge and abilities.
  • Participation and co-operation.
  • Make the staff in the kindergarten develop a
    competence with digital media.

What kind of help do we need? Specifications
  • We need help to make a prototype for the Internet
    portal.
  • We think that the portal can be made as a kind of
    mashup from Google Maps and Google blogger. We
    will be able to use the Google system and keep
    everything on their servers if we manage to make
    the portal so it can be adopted in their system.
    We will build the system from open codes.
  • We also need a system on how to use and access
    the culture institutions in the portal, and a
    design for how we can control the permissions to
    the system.
  • We want to find out how we can integrate the
    technical frame and the design. We want a
    prototype with links we can select on the screen.
    Design and functionality has to be bound
    together.
