INSPECTION PLANNING
  • The process of indicating what dimensional
information is required to monitor a part or
    processs quality performance.
  • Inspection planning performs an important
function in the gap between design and
    inspection.
  • The Inspection Plan is obviously an important
    link between the two.

3
What is an Inspection Plan?
  • A Description of What
  • Listing of features required for inspection.
  • Datum information required to measure these
    features correctly.
  • GDT and Tolerance information required to
    accurately analyze the features.
  • Not device specific

5
What is the level of detail ?
  • In general, the Plan should have only as much
detail as is necessary to describe the
    dimensional requirements.
  • Less is More!

6
What is the level of detail?
  • Many times the individuals defining the
inspection needs of the part is not necessarily
familiar with the measurement device to be used.
  • This should be the baseline assumption.

7
What is the value as it relates to
interoperability?
  • We have seen many customers solving their own
Inspection Planning problems, each in their own
    proprietary way.
  • This has demanded adaptation to many incoming
data formats and differing of contents of
    inspection plans.
  • Very costly.

8
What is the value as it relates to
interoperability?
  • Interoperability would be served by allowing a
plan to be delivered to any vendor in a STANDARD
    FORMAT for metrology applications.
  • Save time and money for both end users and
vendors of metrology equipment and software.
