In the commercial world
  • The trick is to find the argument that makes your
potential customer see the need to invest in your
    solution, technology and expertise.
  • To you, that argument may not be all that
innovative or unique, but to the customer, it
means better, more efficient business and may be
    a revelation.

JWB Group
  • Fast Decisions for Custom Packaging

15
JWB Group
  • JWB Group is a leader in the design of plastic
packaging and the visualization of complex
    objects and design.
  • We have to build models as part of the
    manufacturing process. Using Right Hemisphere
Technology, we can use the same models as a tool
    for communicating with our customers.

16
JWB Group
  • Problem
  • Fast moving consumer goods companies want to make
and approve product design decisions as quickly
as possible to reduce overall production and
    go-to-market times.
  • Solution
  • JWB speeds their clients approval process with a
3D model of the bottle with the customer branded
label included. The 3D model is sent to the
customer as a PDF over email so they can
instantly see how their own label looks on a
    standard bottle.
  • Benefits
  • The result is a highly customised bottle for the
customer. There is no printing, no physical
prototype, no couriers, no waiting and reduced
costs. The easy communication with the customer
and the customers client facilitates the
    decision making.

18
Vector and Utilitech
  • Easily accessible learning material
    fortechnicians and the general public.

19
Vector and Utilitech
  • Vector is a multi-network infrastructure company
which owns and operates a range of energy and
    technology businesses and assets. Utilitech
trains people working in utilities and
construction to be qualified, competent and safe.
Together we need a modern way to provide
training on todays complex and ever changing
technologies that is intuitive and easy to learn.
  • Nextspace has enabled us to build a structure
onto which further elearning modules can be
attached, and through which people can
unambiguously learn and understand complex tasks
and issues around energy, its production and
    consumption, and the environment.

20
Vector and Utilitech
  • Problem
  • How can we standardize our training across the
organization and be able to offer both courses
that comply with NZQA and in-the-field training
and assistance? Also, how can we best reach out
with complex concepts about energy production,
usage and the environment to the general public?
  • Solution
  • Online multimedia environments solve both issues,
with strategic use of 3D where necessary.
Further, a web server capable of tracking
individual student progress completes the tool as
    an elearning platform.
  • Benefits
  • Our field operators, and other technicians or
students can take part in our courses from
wherever they are, be it at home, in the field or
in the workplace. And the general public can see
in an easily understandable form the entire human
energy cycle and the effects on the environment
    from their home computer.

3D Ltd
  • Reaching new customers through Virtual Galleries

23
3D Ltd
  • 3D Ltd brings 3D interactive visualisation
technology to artists, enabling a wider reach to
    more customers than otherwise possible.
  • Nextspace has allowed us to broaden our vision to
    include network based automatically generated
galleries and showrooms, as well as implementing
    a user-friendly gallery scenario.

24
3D Ltd
  • Problem
  • Artists have a limited ability to reach large
    numbers of potential customers through
    exhibitions or at their studios.
  • Solution
  • Displaying the artworks online in a virtual
gallery allows many potential customers to
experience them in a familiar context and to
customise the experience to match their own
    places.
  • Benefits
  • The number of potential customers who can see the
artworks is an order of magnitude larger than
otherwise. The same technique is equally as
applicable to virtual showrooms and for
displaying artworks for a gallery long after
    the physical exhibition is finished.

assists its clients by rapidly developing
projects and prototypes which can be brought to
market faster, more effectively and with superior
    outcomes.
  • Accessing technology through Nextspace has helped
us to create unique solutions that meet real
    market needs.

28
Urban Voyage
  • Problem
  • Super yacht building is highly competitive and
    innovative, involving owners, designers and
builders all over the world, working in different
time zones and languages. How do you bring
everybodys ideas together, develop a project,
present it and ensure that the project will be
    successful?
  • Solution
  • Online 3D models enable all stakeholders to
collaborate in realtime over the internet,
integrate ideas from hand sketches to CAD and
validate a design ensuring risks are minimised
and design errors are eliminated. As the design
fully evolves, models can be updated and targeted
to the markets ensuring the highest chance of
    success.
  • Benefits
  • Provides confidence to all stakeholders that
design intent is followed, understood and that
all expectations are met or exceeded. 3D
integration solutions help to sell boats faster,
build them more efficiently and provide training
and support once the vessel is complete.

Predefine
  • Project managing complex projects

33
Predefine
  • Predefine is a virtual construction company that
    provides solutions for controlling construction
    projects and processes.
  • Nextspace enabled us to more quickly demonstrate
to the construction industry how 3D could lower
    costs and improve sales.

34
Predefine
  • Problem
  • In a construction project, designers, architects,
builders, suppliers and trades-people need to be
    coordinated.
  • Solution
  • Prototyping with 3D visuals reduces the need for
expensive onsite modifications and cost overruns
and ensures all aspects of the building process
can be well checked before construction actually
    starts.
  • Benefits
  • Digital prototypes simulate the building process
and the building itself, so clients save time and
money and build with fewer uncertainties. The
need for onsite modifications is reduced thus
reducing the cost of tools and labour.
Similarly, the need for expensive rebuilds due to
    planning mistakes is avoided.

MoTaT
  • Bringing to life a piece of history.

39
MoTaT
  • MoTaT is a museum in Auckland that preserves
transport and technological history for the
people of today and tomorrow. We are always
looking for new ways to engage with the public
    using modern technology.
  • Nextspace has brought alive the Beam Engine with
animated Stereoscopic 3D so that the general
public can really see inside the complex workings
of this historical piece of Aucklands history.

40
MoTaT
  • Problem
  • The Beam Engine that used to pump water for
Auckland has been restored. How can we show what
happens inside in a way that people can really
see and understand? We need this for the
re-opening of the restored Beam Engine.
  • Solution
  • Animated stereoscopic 3D with a live commentary
going through a sequence tells the story of the
history and the technology more eloquently than
    any other medium.
  • Benefits
  • People can really see the inner workings of the
Beam Engine and hear some of the more amusing
points (like what happens when eels get sucked
up), and the interest around stereoscopic 3D
graphics helps fuel interest in history.

Catlins Area School
  • eLearning increases opportunities for schools and
    students

43
Catlins Area School
  • The Catlins Area School provides elearning in
Aviation Studies and Tourism for South Otago and
    nationwide.
  • Nextspace has helped us to enhance teaching and
learning across the school curriculum using
    interactive realtime 3D.

44
Catlins Area School
  • Problem
  • There is a shortage of young people considering
aviation as a career. There is already an
    Aviation Studies elearning programme.
  • Solution
  • Using interactive 3D, students can manipulate
and explore parts of an aircraft, even
disassembling the aircraft and putting it back
    together virtually.
  • Benefits
  • The powerful visualization tools enhance the
    understanding of complex technical topics,
without needing access to real planes.

MARS Medipix
  • Helping the MARS scanner be commercially viable.

49
MARS - Medipix
  • Canterbury University is leading an international
consortium to develop commercial medical imaging
products based on the newly developed Medipix
    detector chip.Nextspace is providing the
interlinking technology, based on the Right
Hemisphere platform, that will manage, process
and store the data from the scanning hardware and
enable it to be used for a variety of purposes
ranging from scientific investigation of the
internal structures of small organic objects such
as a mouse or ftus to diagnosis of medical
    conditions in a human.

50
MARS - Medipix
  • Problem
  • The Medipix detectors allow full spectroscopic
x-ray imaging that has applications in astronomy,
high energy physics and medical imaging. But how
do you support the workflow and transition of
    data?
  • Solution
  • The project will run for six years with a number
of commercialisation steps along the way.  The
first, by mid 2009, will have a small scanner
ready to be purchased by scientific
organisations, each with its embedded Deep Server
tailored for the management of Medical Imaging
    data.
  • Benefits
  • This will allow medical practitioners and
scientists an unprecedented ability to bring
together data of the same patient or sample from
various scanners to aid in the diagnosis or
    scientific analysis.
  • Further, some spinoff products will also be
developed running Matlab processing within the
massively parallel Deep Server, very useful for
the scientific community, and being able to
combine and manage medical data from any other
medical scanning device through the DICOM file
    standard.

51
