Program Mission The mission of the M. Ed. School
Leadership Program is to prepare individuals to
be caring, competent and qualified educational
leaders who have a vision and a compelling sense
of purpose for continuous improvement of schools
and learning for all students. Within the
graduate program, students will acquire the
knowledge and skills to facilitate, motivate, and
lead high levels of learning for all students and
teachers. Program Vision We influence the
field and practice of school leadership to
improve learning environments.

- To foster a vision and a compelling sense of

schools and equitable learning for all students,
graduates will have the necessary knowledge and
skills to - Apply disciplinary knowledge in the graduate
program coursework to the practice of school
leadership. - Engage in, facilitate and lead collaborative
learning communities. - Engage in, facilitate and lead strategic inquiry,
data-driven decision making and change. - Informed by Learning Communities and Strategic
Decision Making, be equipped with sufficient
knowledge to able to undertake important roles
and responsibilities in the schools they plan to

6School LeadershipInstructional Leadership in a
PLC
- Coursework is based around the conceptual
framework of professional learning communities
(PLCs), an effective strategy for improving
teaching and learning. - Students learn to function as a PLC within the
cohort - Students learn strategies to help schools develop
into high-functioning PLCs, such as - Inquiry-based processes
- Data collection and analysis
- Collaborative teaming
- Professional development
- Systems of prevention and intervention
7School LeadershipAdministrative Internship
- Provide excellent on-site experience
- Integration of coursework into real-life settings
- Trained principal mentors
- Faculty supervision
- Reflective process and seminars
- Meets State of Utah Requirements
- Requires 450 hours with both elementary and
secondary experience - Requires 200 hours must be in a school setting
- Internship hours completed in minimum of
three-hour blocks of time - Requires State of Utah Level Two Teaching License

12LPPFull-Time Internship
- Four days per week of internship with Wednesday
for class instruction - Three 12-week experiences at all three levels in
schools (elementary, middle, and high school) - Internship placement in schools that are
