Coaching Sessions
  • Performance Development Session
  • Individual coaching of a team or an employee in a
    PRIVATE environment for their performance.
  • MISTAKE 1 Coaching in PUBLIC
  • This should be done one-on-one to avoid
embarrassment in front of their peers.
Remembering that the role of a coach is to build
up or amplify ones strengths is primary in this
    session.
  • Coaching in public creates distrust among
employees and other team members, and can also
create fear in your working environment.
  • Remember, Coaching sessions are behavior and fact
based. Before entering this session, please
ensure you have facts to back their performance
    attributes. (i.e. reports, business metrics
    specific to their job performance)
  • Documentation is necessary for this meeting.

10
Coaching Sessions
  • Progressive Counseling Session
  • Documentation of the employees performance
indicates a trend, pattern, or frequency of
    negative behavior.
  • If an employee has been coached, and agrees to
change the behavior, you must expect the change
    to take place.
  • Verbal (discussion record), Written, or Final
Progressive Counseling is issued based on the
    severity of the offense.
  • Behavioral vs. Gross Misconduct?
  • Very little discussion takes place, as this is
    corrective action. It is pre-prepared
    documentation.
  • You may address questions the employee may have
after the document is issued. They do have the
opportunity to disagree in a written format
during or after the document is issued.
  • WORST CASE SCENARIO

11
I-Ncorporated Sessions
  • All of these sessions are necessary to execute in
order to have an environment in which employees
    WANT to work for you.
  • When confronting employees with performance
issues, it is important to use FACT over FEELING.
    How should this be done?
  • This process, if used correctly can take the
stress out of people management. How will it take
the stress out of people management?
