How it Works

• Glow sticks work by mixing two chemicals together
  and the end result is light
• As soon as you crack the glow stick, unleashing
  the two chemicals, it spreads to the rest of the
  stick and eventually the whole stick glows

Chemicals

• There are two chemicals in the glow stick.
• One is in the plastic called hydrogen peroxide.
• The other is in the glass inside the plastic. It
  is called diphenyl oxalate
• When the two mix they create a new chemical
  called phenol. This is what makes it glow.
