  • ... are specially trained to deliver daily
one-to-one Numbers Count teaching for those

What happens in Numbers Count lessons?

ongoing assessment and planning. This informs
the detailed individual learning plan, which is
    the basis of the teaching.
  • Teaching and learning cycle reviewteach-practise
    -apply.
  • Use of a range of resources, models and images to
    enable child to demonstrate mathematical
    thinking.
  • Extensive use of mathematical language by adult

Alfies story
  • Before intervention
  • Lack of focus on carpet, and no work produced if
    working independently
  • Autumn term assessments showed stagnant progress
from Year 1 at national curriculum level 1c
  • Distractable and distracting to others, work
avoidance tactics, and regular tears or angry
    outbursts

Alfies story
  • At the start of Numbers Count
  • The initial detailed assessment at the start
of his programme immediately highlighted gaps and
misconceptions in his learning. For example, he
could say which column in a two-digit number
represented tens or units but he didnt
understand what tens and units actually meant and
how they fitted together. He was confident at
counting to 100, but had no calculation
strategies other than counting all. He quickly
resorted to guessing when working beyond numbers
    to 10.

Alfies story
  • After Numbers Count
  • Alfie successfully uses the concepts learnt
to achieve speedy and accurate recall in number
calculations. He contributes in class, answering,
explaining and confidently sharing his knowledge
with adults and classmates. He is able to work
independently, and is motivated and engaged by
work which challenges him to think and apply his
    skills.
