Title: Skeletal System

1
Skeletal System
  • By Justin Loss and Anthony Mida

2
Purpose of your bones
  • The skeletal system has several purposes. Your
backbone enables you to stand upright. Other
bones such as your rib cage protect vital organs
such as your heart and lungs. Without our
skeletal system we would be a pile of mush.

3
How many Bones do you have?
When you are born you have 300 bones. As you grow
your bones fuse together leaving you with 206
bones by the time you reach adulthood. Bones are
able to fuse and repair themselves. Bones are
made up of living cells, like all other cells
they need blood so they can get food and oxygen.
4
Disorders
  • Spinal deformities
  • Leukemia- is a cancer where white blood cells
    abnormally multiply
  • Bursitis- causes pain in your joints
  • Osteoporosis- a disease which results in loss of
    bone tissue
  • Sprains- an injury to a ligament that covers a
    joint
  • Fractures- a broken bone
  • Spina bifida- a birth defect where the spine
    doesnt connect properly

5
Bone Marrow
  • Their hollowness makes bones strong. In the
center of bones is bone marrow which makes new
red and white blood cells. Red blood cells
distribute oxygen to all parts of your body. This
    helps fight germs and diseases.

Conclusion
Our skeletal system is vital for our survival.
Without it we wouldnt be able to survive.
