How does the Burg Measure Up?

• The Burg has been the only school to have 100
  graduation last year. In fact, we have done this
  the past two years!
• The 2006 2007 Scores were the highest all time
  at the Burg.

• The Burg tied for 6th on 10th Grade OGT in
  Reading.
• Tied for 7th in Math.
• Was last (9th) in writing.

Geometry and Spatial SenseData

• Geometry Pre test Results
• Class average 7.2/13
• 6/13 Would pass the Math OGT
• According to last weeks pre-test, 75 would
  PASS the math OGT and another 9 would be near
  proficient.
• Geometry Post Test Results
• Class average 9.6/16
• 7/16 Would pass the Math OGT
• According to last weeks post test, 76.9 would
  PASS the math OGT and another 13 would be new
  proficient.

Earth and Space Science Data

• If this practice counted at the science OGT, 66
  would have passed.
• 96 of the 44 students that passed the practice
  OGT, completed BOTH extended response questions.
• Of the 22 students that did not pass the practice
  OGT, 54 DID NOT ATTEMPT 1 or both of the
  extended response questions, losing between 4-8
  points.
• To pass this practice, you would have needed only
  7 points.
• The ASSUMPTION that you can still pass the OGT by
  just doing the MC questions is NOT TRUE!

Test Taking Strategies for the OGT

• Feeling confident and comfortable in using
  test-taking strategies can make a huge
  difference. It is not cheating or taking the
  easy way out. It is sharpening the way you think
  so you can show what you know!

Test-taking strategies

• Know your vocabulary (what are the words telling
  us)
• Answer EVERY question
• Use codes to make better guesses
• Power Guess by eliminating
• Talk to yourself
• Include what you think and how you think
• Use drawing to support your answers
• Check over your work

Science Strategies

• Formulate a plan
• Dont get stuck, move on and come back
• Answer EVERY question
• Be an active reader-think as you read
• Recheck your answer immediately and then when the
  test is complete
• Complete Science Pre-Test

Math Strategies

• Use your resources
• Practice using the calculator
• AC to clear the calculator between problems
• C/CE to clear the last thing you typed but not
  the entire problem
• -E- means there is an error. Hit AC
• DEG means the answer is displayed in degrees of
  an angle

Using their strategies!

• Each week we have highlighted 7-10 students that
  have used test taking strategies while completing
  their OGT practice tests. 100 of these students
  passed the practice OGT. However, only 13 of
  10th grade students are routinely using
  strategies to increase their chances on the test.
