What is the LITEC Invitational?
  • An optional competition that allows your Smart
    Car to compete against others in speed, tracking,
    and enhancements.
  • A chance to show off all the work youve done on
    your Smart Car.
  • An opportunity to win great prizes!

Who can enter?
  • Invitational entrants must be currently enrolled
    in LITEC
  • A sign-up list will be placed in the lab - a
    maximum of 20 teams can enter
  • If more than 20 teams sign up, an elimination
    round will be held to determine the top 20 teams

What are the prizes?
  • All competitors will receive a LITEC Invitational
    shirt!
  • First place team will receive 2 Microsoft Xbox
    Game Consoles
  • Second place team will receive 2 RCA 1060 MP3
    players
  • Third place team will receive 2 Soyo 128MB USB
    Portable Drives

What happens at the competition?
  • The Smart Cars will run on a special competition
    track, attempting to get the best speed time, and
    accurate distance measurement.
  • Only one car will run on the track at a time.
  • Each team will have two 15-minute time slots
    during which they, along with 2-3 other teams,
    will have priority for running on the track and
    getting timed.
  • Teams may also test their cars or get timed on
    the track whenever the track is free.

How are the enhancements judged?
  • Each student team will have 5-7 minutes to
    present and demonstrate their enhancements to the
    judges.
  • A team of judges composed of RPI professors,
    administrators, and/or alumni assign scores based
    on criteria such as engineering quality,
    appearance, performance, and creativity.

Enhancement Judging

How do they decide who wins?
  • The speed and distance accuracy scores are
    combined with the enhancement scores to determine
    the first, second, and third place cars.
  • Speed and distance scores are each worth 30,
    enhancement scores are worth 40.
