Work Experience
  • Helps to develop the skills and attitudes which
    young people need for the world of work
  • Provides important opportunities for students to
    learn directly about working life and the working
    environment.
  • Work experience therefore encompasses arranging
    work experience placements, fully preparing and
    briefing students beforehand and debriefing them
    afterwards

Legal Duties
  • Organiser
  • Conduct a review of the providers and decide on
    their suitability.
  • Satisfied that Providers have appropriate HS
    Systems in place and are competent to manage HS.
  • Satisfied adequate supervision and induction of
    students.
  • Agree activities/tasks to be undertaken/forbidden.
  • Provider
  • Monitor and supervise student whilst on work
    placement.
  • Ensure students are not exposed to unnecessary
    risks.
  • Provide all information, instruction, training
    and PPE required for tasks.
  • Inform students of the health and safety risks
    identified in providers risk assessments
  • If under 16, provide parents/Guardian with copies
    of Risk assessments.
  • Report any incidents to the college.
  • Students are providers legally adopted employees
    for duration of placement

  • Must have confidence in the Providers ability to
    manage HS.
  • Maintain regular contact.
  • Gain Student feedback.
  • Be Clear with Providers about their
    responsibilities.
  • If in doubt seek help!!

Work Experience Training Plans For 2008/09
  • Currently have 50 work Experience Booklets
    COPs.
  • In 2007/08 we produced nearly 4000 booklets.
  • In 2008/09 we only produced 600 booklets.
  • Developing training packages on Moodle starting
    with Business Admin.
  • Generic- Law, Fire, COSHH, First Aid Accident
    reporting etc
  • Department Specific- HAV, Noise, Pesticides,
    BBVs, working at height etc.
  • All other departments onto Moodle by start of
    2009/10.
