A Game of Chess

• The emotional side to the friendly board game
  of Table Warfare affectionately called Chess.

The Pawn The pawn can only move forward one
square at a time.








On its first move, however, the pawn has the
option of moving two squares forward.
The pawn only attacks or captures enemy pieces
located on either forward diagonal squares.

The Castle The castle, or rook as it is sometimes
called, moves in vertical or horizontal lines.
It can move any number of unobstructed squares
found on these lines, and in any direction. If
an enemy piece occupies a square on these lines,
it may be captured by the castle!

The Knight The knight is the only piece that can
move (jump) over other pieces. It lands on an
opposite color square diagonal to any of the
opposite color squares surrounding the square
where the knight is currently stationed.

The Bishop The bishop moves along a diagonal
one bishop for each color.

The Queen The queen is the most powerful piece on
the chess board. It combines the movements of
the castle and the bishop.

The King The king is the most important chess
piece. If the king is attacked - check - and
is unable to escape the attack, the game is over
checkmate! The king moves just like the
queen, but only one square at a time in any
direction.

The field of battle is now in proper position for
both of the combatants.

Let the battle begin!
White pieces always move first. White kings pawn
to kings square 4.
Black pieces now move. Blacks pawn moves to
black kings square 5.

Whites second move White queens knight moves
to queens bishop square 3.
Blacks knight moves to blacks queens bishop 3.

Whites knight moves to the kings bishop square

Blacks knight at square 3 moves to black queens

Whites pawn moves to white queens square 4.
Blacks pawn moves to kings square 6.

Whites now decides to move its bishop to queen

Black now moves one of its bishops to king knight

White starts the attack! Whites knight at king
bishops square 3 takes blacks king pawn at
square 5.
Huge mistake??? Black counters by capturing
whites most powerful piece, the queen.

Oh no! White is now way behind. Can white
extricate itself from such an onslaught? In
desperation white decides to check the black
king by taking blacks king bishop pawn with its
bishop.
Surprisingly, black only has one move. Its king
must go to kings square 7.

Was this part of whites battle plan? The next
move should prove to be the decisive move of this
epic battle. Whites knight at square 3 moves to
queen square 5 and announces CHECKMATE!!!
