IMAGE Wind Prove Future Mission Concept

• On two Wind perigee passes the Radio Plasma
  Imager (RPI) on IMAGE generated 828 kHz signals
  which were observed by Wind/Waves
• Distance between IMAGE and Wind varied from 6 to
  12 RE
• Researchers include Cummer (Duke), R. Benson,
  J. Green, M. Kaiser, and M. Reiner (all from GSFC)

• Faraday rotation was measured and occurs when the
  received electric field is observed to rotate
  with time due to the changing density of plasma
• Many future multi-spacecraft missions propose to
  use Faraday rotation to obtain global density
  pictures of the magnetosphere
