1
Hygiene and Foot Care
2
Sweating
  • Your body has around 3 million sweat glands and
when you exercise in hot weather you can lose up
    to 3 litres of sweat/hour.
  • It is important to shower after activity to get
rid of the bacteria that is created and gives you
    a bad smell.

3
Choice of Clothing
  • It must allow you to move easily and let you
sweat as it is the body's natural way to cool you
    down.
  • In cold weather you should wear several layers
and as you get warmer take them off.
  • Clothing should be washed regularly to remove
    sweat and bacteria.

4
Foot Infections
5
Athletes Foot
  • It is a fungus that grows between your toes and
makes your skin crack and itch.
  • It can spread to other people by contact such as
using their towel or socks, or even from the
    floor.
  • To avoid it wear footwear in a strange shower,
wash your feet often and dry them thoroughly and
avoid socks and footwear that make your feet
    sweat.

6
Veruccas
  • They are flat warts that grow on the soles of
your feet and can be very painful.
  • They are caused by a virus and spread the same
way as athletes foot but are a lot more
    contagious.
  • If sharing a shower wear suitable footwear to
    stop them spreading.

7
Corns
  • They are pads of thick hard skin that form on
    toes and soles of feet.
  • They can be very painful.
  • To get rid of them you can buy corn plasters or
you could go to a chiropodist.

8
Bunions
  • At the joint of your big toe is a cushion of
    liquid called a bursa.
  • This gets inflamed and a bunion is formed.
  • They are very painful and the only way to get rid
of them is to have surgery.

9
Blister
  • They are caused by friction or rubbing.
  • Do not ever burst a blister.
  • If it does this naturally then keep it clean and
    dry and cover it up.
  • Dont pick off the scab that forms.
