4Eligibility for Co-op
- Be enrolled as a full-time (12 credits per term),
matriculated student in day program at Drexel
University the two terms immediately preceding
your co-op cycle. - Be registered in co-op concentration.
- Receive credit for Co-op 101 or UNIV 101
Coordinators will verify credit. - Be an active student NO holds on your records.
5Co-op Expectations
- The SCDC does NOT guarantee co-op opportunities.
- Maintain deadlines.
- Be dedicated and put forth effort.
- Factors such as GPA, motivation, interviewing
skills and quality of resume will have impact on
job search. - You are responsible for all policies, procedures,
and co-op information listed on SCDC website.
6Caution Online Social Networks (e.g., Facebook,
MySpace, etc.)
- Online social networks are often a great tool to
network with other students. - HOWEVER
- Information online is not private! There is
nothing to stop faculty, employers, parents, and
other students from reading your profiles. - Employers often check profiles of potential
candidates to help in their hiring decisions so
please do not post anything that you would not
want them to view.
7SCDConline Job Search
You can utilize the SCDConline system to search
for and directly apply to co-op positions through
three rounds (A, B and C).

- Click on Student tab
- Click on More BannerWeb SCDC Services to see the
full menu of services
9- The main menu is where you can create resumes,
search for and apply to jobs, view interview
requests and rank results, and complete
Employment Summary and Planner (ESP) forms. - Before beginning a job search, you may want to
see how other students have rated a prospective
employer you can do this by accessing the
archives of past student co-op evaluations by
clicking on the ESP Form Selection link.
10ESP Archives
- You can search the archives by employer name or
by major.
11Search for Jobs Screen
- Search for available co-op positions during the
A, B, and C rounds. - Search by classification, job function, employer
name, job location, and/or keywords.
12Job Description Screen
- Once you enter the search criteria, a list of
job titles will appear. To view the job
description, click on the job title. - Review a job description including employer
information, job duties, GPA requirements, number
of openings, etc. - Click on Request an Interview link at the
bottom of the screen to apply to a position
(Please note You can apply to a maximum of 20
positions in the A and B rounds and 50 positions
in the C round.)
13Interview Request Results
- Employers have 1-2 weeks to review resumes and
select students for interviews, after this time
period you can then view interview results - Click on the Maintain Your Interview Requests
link to determine if you were selected for an
interview. - Interview Status will display accepted or
not selected for each interview request. Click
on any accepted positions job title to view
special interview instructions. - You are required to attend all interviews that
have been granted by employers. Do not miss
classes, exams or tests for interviews.
14Interview Tips
- Conduct a mock interview with your coordinator to
practice for your interviews. - Research companies by visiting their websites.
- Focus on what you can do for a company/organizatio
n rather than what they can do for you. - Send thank you letters after your interviews.
- Continue to maintain relationships with contacts
made through networking.
15Ranking Results
- After the interviews are completed, employers
submit student rankings through the SCDConline
system. Offers of employment through the A and B
rounds should not be made verbally. - Ranking involves accepting offers or ranking job
offers and alternates. You can choose to accept
an offer outright or rank alternates and offers. - Salaries for positions identified through
Drexel.SCDConline cannot be negotiated. - If participating in the ranking/optimal pairing
process, you should only accept or rank positions
with which you would want to be paired. If
paired, you must honor that commitment. - Questions regarding the ranking process should
be directed to your coordinator. During the
ranking process you should not contact employers
directly.
16Ranking Terminology
- Job Offer a job offer is extended to you
- Qualified Alternate the employer has extended
the job offer to another student, but they
believe you could perform the job duties if
students ranked before you are not paired - No Employer Interest the employer is not
considering you for the position

conduct job searches outside of the system.

21Contacting Employers
- Find the right contact person within the company.
- Generate a company-specific cover letter to

opportunities. - Generate a phone script to avoid common
obstacles.

- A co-op abroad can give you a distinct advantage
in this global economy. - An employee who understands the issues facing an
international corporation is ultimately a more
valued employee. - Start planning 12 18 months in advance -
develop an awareness of what you want and where

23How do you ensure co-op credit once you find a
job? Co-op Credit
- Register your co-op
- Paired through SCDConline
- You must electronically sign Student Agreement

- You must complete Student Agreement
Registration form (Blue Form) - Employer must complete an Employer Agreement Form
and offer letter/job description - Successfully complete co-op
- Complete Employment Summary and Planner (ESP)
and meet with your coordinator - International students (F-1 and J-1 visas)
- You must obtain work authorization
24What if you are still searching for a job when
co-op begins? Petition for Co-op Credit Job
Search Journal
- Sign a petition by the second week of the term
(end of Add/Drop period). - Meet with your coordinator to review job search
journal requirements. - Document job search activities.
25While on Co-op
- Be professional while on the job.
- Learn company policies and procedures (time off,
appropriate use of resources such as email and
phone, calling in sick, etc.). - If any issues arise while on co-op, it is
important for you to contact your coordinator. - Problems at work can sometimes result in
termination of employment and co-op probation
(depending on the situation).
26At the End of Co-op
- Complete ESP online.
- Upon successful completion of co-op you earn 17
Drexel Co-op Units (DCUs) for each quarter that
you were registered for co-op. - Schedule an appointment with your coordinator to
review ESP and approve next cycle (if
applicable). - Encourage your employer to review your
performance before you leave.
27Additional SCDC Policies and Procedures
- All co-op experiences must be related to your
major. - If at anytime a hold (inactive status) is
placed on your records, you will not be allowed
to participate in the online co-op program until
the hold is resolved. - All paperwork associated with your co-op
experience must be submitted to your coordinator
for approval PRIOR to beginning co-op employment. - Some international students must adhere to
federally mandated policies in order to be
eligible for co-op. Please contact ISSS, 210
Creese Student Center, regarding status and
responsibilities.
28Additional SCDC Policies and Procedures
- If you violate an SCDC, employer, and/or a
University policy, co-op probation may result.
If terms of probation are not met, this can
result in a failed work term, removal from the
co-op program, and/or delayed graduation. - The SCDC will post policy and procedure updates
or additions on its website- www.drexel.edu/scdc.
It is your responsibility to review this site
and read notices/emails from the SCDC for any
changes or additions to policies and procedures.
