trigger RPCs upgrade
1. Gap production All the RPC gaps
(Starting with RE1/1, RE2/1, RE3/1, RE4/2 and
RE4/3 Possibility a Second layer for RE2/2
and RE2/3) 2. RPC Assembly (in 1.6 lt ?
lt 2.1) 1) RE1/1 - Highest priority among
high-eta detectors. - Planning to produce
6 modules from now to early of 2008. - The
detailed design to be finalized. - One
module to perform an irradiation test with gamma
or neutron sources. 2) RE2/1, RE3/1,
RE4/1 - Needs detailed designs for RE2/1,
RE3/1, RE4/1 - One module to perform
irradiation test with gamma or neutron
sources.

43. Current test for HPLs being produced in Korea
- Feasibility study for the HPL supply for
the RPC upgrade - Addressed the same local
company (Meltech) - Three diff. type samples
thickness of the melamine layers 42 g/cm2,
28 g/cm2 25 g/cm2 -gt lest resistive -
Each batch -gt just one sample sheet 25
g/cm2 ? Range of the resistivity 4
7 ?1010 ?cm was slightly higher than
expected.

6Progress in RE1/1 RPCs 1) A mockup chamber
produced to be tested for the installation
(Dec 2006). 2) The 3D design has been made.
Ready to manufacture gaps and RPC modules.

16- 3. Milestones for CMS Forward RPC upgrade
- We are ready to start the mass production
whenever fund becomes available ! - Action items
- 1) Further tests needed for HPLs.
- 2) Preparation of QA for HPLs.
- 3) Detail design for installations of 6 modules.
- 4) 6 RE1/1 modules to be installed in any
available time (but maybe during December, 2007).
- 5) Design of Hi ? RPCs (RE2/1 and RE3/1).
- 6) Gap and detector production from May 2008.
- 7) High-level radiation test for RE1/1.
