SSH Secure File Transfer (SFTP)
  • Copy files between two computers
  • Use it at home or anywhere

Logging in to the iSchool Labs
  • 2 ways to log in
  • NETID domain
  • ISCHOOL domain

Log In To iSchool Domain
  • ISCHOOL\yourUWNetID
  • Gives you access to your H and N drives
  • From any computer in the iSchool labs
  • From hometwo ways
  • Using the iSchool Virtual Private Network (VPN)
    tunnel after mapping your H drive
  • Using secure file transfer protocol (sftp)

  • ISCHOOL\yourUWNetID
  • Gives you a profile that follows you from
    computer to computer
  • configure Windows, modify software settings, and
    change your desktop wallpaper to suit you
  • your changes will be remembered
  • Keep your Desktop light for faster startup
  • Place shortcuts to files and folders on your
    Desktop instead

  • Youll have all of that but only if you login
    with your iSchool password!
  • If you log in to netid/yourUWnetID
  • You will not have access to your H
  • Anything saved on the local computer will
    disappear

Lab Network Architecture
  • Labs (and all iSchool offices) are on a LAN
  • LAN Local Area Network
  • Allows computers to communicate with each other,
    and to a common location
  • Client/Server is the network architecture for the
    LAN
  • Provides services from one or more servers to
    multiple client computers printing, file
    storage, etc.

  • iSchool is on a client/server system
  • Save your files to a server instead of an
    individual computer
  • you can access your files from any computer!
  • But we want to make sure its you,soooooo, you
    get a profile!
