The need for enriched, interoperable,
communication services

• Today, only (switched) voice, SMS or e-mail, are
  really interoperable communication services with
  open and public interconnection protocols
• Existing enriched communication services do not
  rely on open addressing plans, do not use
  improved network capabilities, such as NGN/IMS,
  and demand to use the same software client on
  both ends
• There is a need for enriched communication
  services with multimedia capabilities, beyond
  voice and SMS, for mobile and fixed customers,
  taking benefits of new IP technologies in
  networks, and providing the largest
  interoperability

Status of the RCS initiative

• RCS initiative has been integrated in the GSMA
• Finalization and publication of RCS 1.0 planned
  end of 2008
• With tests, inputs on the user experience
• Alignment with the trial among Orange, Bouygues
  and SFR for RCS phase 1
• Work on the Go-to-Market (interconnection
  principles)
• Work ongoing on RCS 1.1 Will include PC and
  fixed devices
• For the PC
• Via a USB key (USB connect)
• Via a soft RCS client on PC
