History of the UDPR
  • In 2003, the first UDPR committee of diabetes
    professionals and members of the Utah DPCP was
    established
  • Four sections
  • Diabetes Management in Adults
  • Diabetes Management in Pregnancy
  • Hyperglycemia Management for Inpatients
  • Diabetes Management in Children and Adolescents

Purpose of the UDPRs
  • Serve as guidelines designed for primary care
    providers to assist in diagnosing and treating
    patients with diabetes

  • In your community, give them what they need
  • Assess current, local data
  • Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set
    (HEDIS)
  • Ask at local and national professional
    conferences
  • Review current trends in diabetes management
  • Diabetes Care Standards of Medical Care in
    Diabetes - American Diabetes Association

Establishing a Committee
  • Professional
  • Knowledgeable
  • Diversified
  • Connected
  • Who do they know and what additional information
    can they provide
  • Large
  • But not too large
  • Be sensitive
  • Involve ALL those that need to be involved
  • Core committee vs. Review committee
  • Obtain endorsements from key organizations
