What is a color wheel?

• A color wheel is a chart of colors of the visible
  spectrum that is used to show the relationship
  between colors.
• The basic color wheel is made up of three primary
  colors- red, yellow, and blue. Along with the
  secondary colors- purple, green, and orange.
• The secondary colors are formed by mixing two of
  the primary colors together. When naming a color,
  always name the primary then secondary.
• Sir Isaac Newton invented the first color wheel
  by passing a ray of sunlight through a prism. He
  was able to see the natural sequence of color,
  much like a color wheel does.

• Every tertiary color is always first named by its
  primary color and then by its secondary color.
  Therefore, red-violet means that red is the
  primary color and violet is the secondary color
  it is made up of. To get this color one must mix
  red and blue to get violet and then mix that with
  red.
