20Landscape/Greenbelt
21Game Warden has commented on what a beautiful
preserve we have in Wood Glen greenbelt.
- According to city officials, no other
neighborhood in Round Rock has a preserve of
this kind a combination of size (acreage) with
large and small trees including monarch or
heritage trees and walking trails.
22- Wood Glen Greenbelt Facts
- WGPOA owns 50 acres of common areas and
greenbelt left undeveloped for drainage purposes
mandated by FEMA flood plain regulations - This is 1/5 of the total neighborhood acreage of
250 acres and 548 homes - Two waterways run through the greenbelt Onion
Creek flows from Creek Bend, is joined by Onion
Branch and flows south to the FM 3406 culvert - Greenbelt wildlife includes deer, owls, hawks,
wild turkeys, vultures, snakes, possums,
raccoons, jack rabbits, skunks, armadillos,
coyotes and feral hogs - Greenbelt vegetations includes live oaks, post
oaks, pecan trees, crepe myrtles, persimmon
trees, western soapberry trees and unprotected
species including ash juniper, hackberry,
chinaberry, mesquite and Chinese tallow trees.
23WGPOA Greenbelt Goals
- Along with the privileges comes responsibility
- Safety
- Maintenance
- Enjoyment
24WGPOA Greenbelt Objectives
- Maintain greenbelt including trash pick up, tree
vine removal, dead tree limb and stump removal in
waterways to keep drainage areas clear work with
City of Round Rock to keep all culverts
debris-free protect valuable trees - Mow and maintain common area landscaping
including flower color change-out at entrance,
trash pick-up, sprinkler system upkeep - Enforce no dumping into greenbelt policy,
including natural vegetation - Keep trees/bushes trimmed and vine-free for
safety and long-term growth - Keep walking paths maintained
- Quickly clear emergency basis fallen trees on
private property - Enlist programs to manage control of insects,
animal problems or extensive poison ivy/poison
sumac near pedestrian and play areas
25Landscape/Greenbelt Projects 2009-2010
- Clear drainage blockage at culvert entrance under
3406 bridge and throughout Onion Creek water
pathways - Partial removal of junk trees including ash
juniper, mesquite where oaks are threatened with
city guidance (not including areas directly
behind back fences) - Remove old ranch barbed wire fencing
- Resurface existing walk trails with concrete
where water washes away crushed granite - Resurface existing trails with fresh crushed
granite where necessary - Continue Yard of the Month program (April
Oct.) - Shredding of tall grassy areas in all common
great belt areas (done 2x yr)
26Drainage
27Clearing dammed up water _at_ 3406
- Numerous tree limbs have backed up water about
100 feet north of the FM 3406 culvert. Water
flow stops at a certain height where tree limbs
that have backed up resemble a beaver dam.
28Keeping waterways clear
Trees along the Wood Glen greenbelt water
pathways often die naturally and limbs break off.
When heavier rains come, the limbs block
drainage culverts. Some limbs get stuck inside
the culvert.
