4Learning objectives
The overall educational goal of this accredited
Mental Health Skills Training is to give GPs
specific knowledge, skills and confidence to
undertake the whole Three Step Mental Health
Process in general practice. Learning objectives
are to
- increase awareness of the common patterns of
substance use and mental health co morbidity in
primary care - increase the knowledge and aetiology of the risk
and consequences of substance use in those with
mental illness - increase the knowledge and skills required to
assess and plan treatments for patients with
co-existing disorders - promote a range of treatment options that may be
offered to such patients - improve the diagnostic abilities in both mental
health and drug and alcohol - improve the safety and appropriateness of
benzodiazepine and opioid prescribing
