History of the Tin Whistle

• Different versions of the Tin Whistle date back
  to the 12th century
• The version used today originated in the 1700s
• The term Penny Whistle was in use as early as
  1730
• Tin Whistle was used around 1825
• Neither word was very common until the 20th
  century

Robert Clarke

• In 1825 Robert Clarke used a new material called
  tinplate to make the tin whistle as we know it
  today
• Clarke traveled to Lancashire to manufacture his
  Tin Whistles

Clarke Tin Whistles

• Tin Whistles soon became extremely popular in
  England and Ireland
• Clarke is one of the Worlds most successful and
  popular Tin Whistle manufacturers today

• The Tin Whistle has recently begun to enjoy a
