1. TC Scope
  • INCITS/L8 (Metadata) works in the broad area of
    metadata standardization for information
    technology. Metadata standards are formal
    descriptions for specific kinds of resources. L8
    work addresses descriptions of data, datatypes,
    models, and standards.

  • Lack of participation
  • Changed meeting schedule.
  • Membership
  • Funding required for participation
  • Inconsistent participation
  • Lack of comments / Poor voting response
  • Voting process hurt

4. Expected Challenges
  • The 3rd edition of ISO/IEC 11179 is initiated.
    The first CDs should appear in October.
  • Other standards are progressing.
  • Generating comments for ballots is biggest
    concern.
  • No other impediments to progress anticipated.

  • Every year more organizations are implementing
    ISO/IEC 11179 as part of their metadata strategy.
  • Many standards activities reference and follow
    ISO/IEC 11179.
  • ISO/IEC 11179 is part of the Data Reference Model
    of the Federal Enterprise Architecture
  • The Semantic Web is an increasingly important
    initiative. ISO/IEC 11179 (Metadata Registries)
    and ISO/IEC 24707 (Common Logic) are important
    pieces of this work
