Title: Tour of Redlands
1Tour of Redlands
- 4A Fieldtrip
- October 24, 2008
2On the BusOur bus picked us up in front of
school. Many of the us had never been on a
school bus. Our bus driver, Ed, had a
one-of-a-kind, air-conditioned bus. We were
riding in style. Mrs. G, and Mrs. Honeycup gave
us many facts about Redlands as we rode along.
3High StreetOur bus drove down High Street and we
learned that old parts of Redlands have cut-stone
curbs. We saw this old Victorian house and a
hitching post made of a huge rock. Can you see
the fish scales and sunburst on the house?
4University of RedlandsEd, our driver, dropped us
off by the University of Redlands and we walked
through the campus, over the Zanja (Sankey), and
up to the Administration Building.
5University of RedlandsWe heard our own echo
bounce off the Chapel.
6Stone HousesWho knew beautiful stone houses
could be found on 6th Street behind school? Do
you see the wagon wheel, basket, etc?
7AsistenciaWe stopped by the Asistencia, an
extension of the San Gabriel Mission.
8In the Asistencia Chapel
9Into the the Asistencia Museum
10Morey MansionYou shouldve heard the Oohhs and
Aaahhs as we drove up to this mansion. We loved
itand its 96 windows.
11Grove HouseWe got to walk around this beautiful
orange grove home and took a close look at the
Kapok Tree.
12Spanish HomeThis home has a bowling alley in the
basement.
13Smiley LibraryWe hopped off the bus again to
walk through the Smiley Library. We saw a statue
of the Smiley Brothers, carved faces, and over
100,000 books.
14Smiley LibraryThe Smiley Brothers favorite
flowers were pansies, which are always planted in
the flower bed.
15Lincoln MemorialWe walked to the Lincoln
Memorial.
16Inside the Lincoln MemorialWe learned about
President Lincoln and the Civil War.
17Redlands BowlWe walked through the Redlands Bowl
on our way to Smiley Park to eat lunch. We
learned that concerts and performances are free
to the public on Tuesday summer nights.
18Prospect Park and Kimberly CrestWe got back on
the bus and drove over to Prospect Park. We
walked up the steps to Kimberly Crest.
19Kimberly CrestWere still walking! Did you know
there are 77 steps to get to the front door of
the mansion? (Wow! Thats one of Mrs. Treurs
favorite numbers!)
20Kimberly CrestWe finally made it to the mansion!
Our tour guide, Mrs. G, said we had been so well
behaved on the tour so far that we would do
something no other class had ever done on the
Tour of Redlands before. She let us tour the
mansion as an entire class! Afterward, we each
got one of Mrs. Shirks famous ginger cookies and
we searched for turtles and frogs in the koi pond
behind the mansion.
21Secret PathMrs. G let us walk down the secret
path back to the bus. Sadly, this was our last
stop.
22Back to SchoolWe had tons of fun, but now we had
to get back on the bus and head back to school.
23Thats all!
- We had a blast.
- Mrs. G, Mrs. Honeycup, and Ed the bus driver said
we were the best class theyve ever had on the
tour before! - You should be proud of us!
