2IV. Seasonal Discussion
- The Siberian High continues to loosen its grip on
the Far East. The western coastal areas of Korea
and Japan gradually lose the cloud cover
associated with the High during April. The polar
front retreats northward and the number of waves
increases along the front, bringing in more
cloudiness and precipitation to southern Japan
and the areas east of Japans central mountain
divide. - Throughout Japan and Korea, temperatures are 10
degrees warmer than during March, even though
cold temperatures do occur on occasion. In the
past, snow has been reported in southern Japan
during April, but it is rare. Northern Honshu
and Hokkaido can still expect some snowfall
during the first part of the month.
