Life in General

• Life span325-265BC
• His birth place is unknown, possibly Megara.
• He died at age 60
• He was educated in Athens by the Greek
  philosopher Plato. After that he went on to
  teach at a school he founded in Alexandria,
  Egypt.
• He was a author of many geometrical and other
  math books.

Historic Events

• Alexander the Greats conquest starts as
  Hellenism (to be Greek-like) follows in his
  armys wake.
• There is many wars against Rome, such as the
  Punic Wars.
• The militaristic state of Chin unifies China for
  the first time.

Mathematical Success

• Euclid wrote the series called The Elements, a
  collection of books on geometrical theorems,
  which became a standard work for over 2000 years.
• He founded the first school of mathematics
• He proved there was an infinite number of primes.

The Elements

• The Elements was a collection of geometrical
  knowledge presented in 13 volumes. It became the
  basis of mathematical teaching for 2000 years.
  The first 6 volumes are plane geometry.Volumes
  7-9 are number theories. The 10th volume focuses
  on Eudoxuss theory of irrational numbers.
  Volumes 11-13 consist of solid geometry
