August 2008
In control?
You are with Elseviers Admin
Tool.
2
New Admin Tool PossibilitiesAs Per August 2nd,
2008
  • In addition to Journals, Book Series, Handbooks,
and Major Reference Works entitlement detail, it
is now possible to view eBooks.
  • Users can now belong to multiple groups.
  • Users can be moved easily between groups.
  • The Electronic Holdings Report can now show gaps
    in entitled access.

3
Lets take a look
  • Comparison of the Admin Tool before and after AE
    Phase IV

4
1a. Viewing Entitlement Details of All Content
Types
  • Account Level ScienceDirect Tab
  • Removed the Reference Works Entitlements
    section
  • Renamed the Journals / Book Series / Handbooks
    Entitlement Details to Journals/Books and
included the Major Reference Works and eBooks
  • Reasoning
  • To allow Administrators to view all
ScienceDirect content entitlements in one place
    in the Admin Tool.

1b. Viewing Entitlement Details of All Content
Types
  • Account Level ScienceDirect Tab
    ScienceDirect Journal/Book Entitlements Search
  • Additional search fields have been introduced.
  • Reasoning
  • To allow search results to be more specific and
to cover all content types and to allow
Administrators to view all ScienceDirect content
entitlements in one place in the Admin Tool.

2a. Users can now belong to multiple groups
  • Account and Group Level General Tab
  • The Create/Edit/View User Profile pages now
reflects the possibility of the User to belong to
multiple Groups and an Add a New Group
    Membership section has been added.
  • The Remote Access flag has been removed.
  • Reasoning
  • Nowadays researchers may work, do research for,
and belong to multiple organizations. By
allowing a user to belong to multiple groups in
the Admin Tool, it is now easy for an
Administrator to meet the various access needs
    that Users might have.
  • The Remote Access flag has been removed because
adding a user to a Group in the Admin Tool
automatically gives the user Remote Access rights
    to that Group.

2b. Users can now belong to multiple groups
  • Account and Group Level General Tab
  • The Create/Edit User Profile page of the
Administrators section has been organized to
    place the Administrator Privileges section
lower on the page and an Add a New Group
    Membership section has been added.
  • Reasoning
  • It is necessary for a Group to be selected
before it can be determined what should be filled
    in the Administrators Organization dropdown.

3. Users can be moved easily between groups
  • Account Level General Tab
  • The Edit User Profile page now displays a
    Remove This Membership link.
  • Reasoning
  • Users may not always stay with the same Group
over time so allowing Administrators to remove
Group memberships from user profiles meets the
need to update the users memberships.
  • Sometimes users move from one Group to another.
Adding a new Group membership and removing an old
Group membership make moving a user between
Groups possible through the Admin Tool.

4. The Electronic Holdings Report can now show
gaps in entitled access
Note The Electronic Holdings Report will only
be available on August 24th.
  • Account and Group Level ScienceDirect Tab
  • The ScienceDirect Journal/Book Entitlements
Search results page can now display gaps in the
    Entitled Content Dates.
  • Reasoning
  • To reflect the situations when entitled access
    to content is not continuous.
  • Example Having backfiles plus a current
subscription to a title from 2004-2008, leaves a
    gap in content from 1995-2003.
