Background
  • FMCSA safety research indicates that truck and
    bus drivers with past convictions and the
    companies that hire them are statistically more
    likely to involved in future commercial vehicle
    crashes
  • Employers are not always notified about CDL
    driver convictions in a timely manner, and
    therefore, are unable to take immediate and
    appropriate corrective action towards a driver

  • Employee Notification Service (ENS)programs
    proactively notify a motorcarrier when the
    driving record of one of its drivers is updated
    (e.g., driving violation conviction, CDL status
    change)
  • Ten states have implemented ENS programs
