What causes the eruptions?

• A volcano erupts by lava building up inside of
  the volcano.
• When the volcano erupts then the pressure that
  was building up is relieved of the gas that was
  building up for up to hundreds of years.

• The people who survived the nightmare thought
  that the gods were mad at them.
