Reading First Status Report System
What it is and What it isnt
What it is
  • The New York State Reading First Status Report
System was primarily created to record the number
and type of professional development and
    technical assistance services provided to
schools, districts, and regions that support the
    implementation of Reading First programs.
  • In addition, the system provides a mechanism to
collect assessment data (i.e., DIBELS) as well as
to document the status of Reading First
    implementation.

3
Reading First Status Report System
What it is and What it isnt
What it is(Contd)
  • It is a system that monitors the statewide
    delivery of Reading First professional
    development and technical assistance
  • It includes the specific content areas,
pedagogical practices, and key players about
which the U.S. DoEs Reading First Office is most
    interested

One Analogy
An activity log system is like the coarse focus

with general information about the item (i.e.,
program) being studied.
5
Reading First Status Report System
What it is and What it isnt
What it isnt
  • It is NOT designed to record every possible
instance of Reading First technical assistance or
    professional development.
  • It will not document the quality of technical
    assistance and professional development.

6
Reading First Status Report System
What it is and What it isnt

Instruction The school provides a dedicated
block of research-based reading instruction in
the five essential components that is focused on
meeting the needs of all students including those
that are below grade level, limited English
proficient, and students with disabilities.
Teachers provide direct explicit systematic
instruction and differentiate using flexible
small groups. Group size, instructional time and
instruction content varies based on student
needs. The school has multiple options to help
teachers reach struggling students and there is a
specific RF plan to address intensive students.
