Mission
  • to implement the principles of sustainable
    development in practise, particularly those aimed
    at
  • preserving natural resources and biodiversity,
  • balancing the human society with the environment

    value in 10 years

    policies and legislation related to sustainable
    development issues,
  • monitoring of the implementation of sustainable
    development policies and legislation at national
    level.

  • In the last couple of years Umanotera has been
    focused on
  • climate change,
  • chemicals (policy work),
  • nature conservation (Natura 2000),
  • social responsibility (Fair trade shop, Good
    gifts)
  • capacity building of NGOsS
  • (before also waste prevention and GMOs)

Member
  • Umanotera has been a full member of
  • European Environmental Bureau - EEB (since 2001)
  • a national partner of the Trust for the Civil
    Society in CEE in 2002 (programmes for
    strengthening the NGO sector in Slovenia.
  • the first Fair Trade shop in Slovenia (in
    Ljubljana) was opened by Umanotera in partnership
    with Humanitas in 2004.

  • Agenda 21 for Slovenia - joint project with 19
    Slovene NGOs in 1995 (Networking with NGOs and
    experts in Slovenia and internationally)
  • Green Budget Reform conference and book in
    partnership with the Wuppertal Institute in 1996,
  • Secretariat for the European NGO Coalition for
    the Aarhus Conference 1998,
  • Plan B for Slovenia 1.0, alternative development
    scenario for Slovenia focused on ambitious
    climate targets, 2007).
  • Publications
  • Green Pages 1998 and
  • 2000 Almanac (Directory and Who-is-Who in
    Environment in Slovenia),
  • weekly E-news since 2001
  • over 20 other publications on topics ranging from
    mainstreaming sustainable development and green
    public institutions to waste management and GMOs.
  • Successful pioneering work in capacity building
    for facilitation of group processes in Slovenia,
  • Innovative examples of encouraging communication
    between sectors in the society (EU Tuesdays, Club
    Umanotera) and
  • promoting public participation in decision-making
    (Mirror to the Government Report 2006).
